Detective Senior Constable Craig Wastell, of the Warrnambool police crime investigation unit, said thieves were targeting new builds and properties under renovation in the city over the last couple of months.
"There's been a spate of incidents in the middle of the night, targeting areas that are mostly unpopulated," he said.
"New builds and properties under renovation are being accessed and fittings, as well as power tools, are being taken and properties are being damaged."
Senior Constable Wastell said the most recent incident occurred overnight Sunday.
"A house being renovated in north Warrnambool was targeted and power tools were stolen from the site," he said.
"The tools were worth in excess of $1000."
The detective said a white Mitsubishi utility was seen in the area on Sunday.
"We believe that vehicle may be related to that incident," he said.
"We're asking for information about that utility, as well as any power tools or house fittings being sold online, or any suspicious behaviour that may be seen at any hour of the day.
"If people could make a report that would be much appreciated."
Anyone with information should contact Warrnambool police or Crime Stoppers.
