The bushland fire broke out at Lake Condah around 1pm on Tuesday in dense and inaccessible terrain.

CFA operation manager and assistant chief fire officer John Leben said the cause of the fire, brought under control by 5pm, remained unknown.

"All the resources are going home," he said.

"At the moment we're still trying to figure out why we even had a fire, we've got no idea.

"We don't have worries about it, it's just a process to understand what caused it.

"It was tough terrain - very rocky. But crews went in and were able to get to it and take care of it."

He said the smoke was so thick it was hard to determine how much land was damage.

No-one was injured.

The fire appears to have burnt around 1.5 hectares of land, near Budj Bim National Park.

Gunditj Mirring Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation posted online that the fire was in the stones across from the old Lake Condah Mission.

"The quick response from the Heywood CFA and Milltown CFA quickly assessed the incident and suppressed the danger.

"The CFA and GMTOAC are keeping an eye on the smouldering remains."

A bushfire at Kennedy's Creek was declared safe around 5pm on Tuesday.

Earlier, 3pm: Emergency services are responding to an out of control fire at Lake Condah.

The bushland fire started around 1pm on Tuesday near Coustleys Road.

Seven CFA units from Tyrendarra, Homerton, Milltown, Heywood, Austgum and PF Olsen are at the scene.

The fire is approximately 50 metres in length, located along a creek.

Crews are working to extinguish the fire in difficult, scrubby terrain.

"We're out here and still trying to figure out how to get to the fire," he said.

"We're talking with Gunditjmara who are part of the operation.

"At the moment it's in inaccessible terrain so we're working on getting access.

"We don't know what caused it at this stage.

"It's small and slow moving in rocky terrain."
