The Blues have added Quambatook recruit Martin Angus to their ranks and expect the versatile tall to complement mobile attackers in Jack Primmer and Jesse Dalton.
Harkness, who took on the club's top job before coronavirus put a line through the 2020 season, told The Standard Angus could fill a number of roles.
"He's played forward most of his career, but we're keeping our options open," he said.
We'd like to be able to play him a little bit in defence and even to pinch-hit in the ruck.

"We'd like to be able to play him a little bit in defence and even to pinch-hit in the ruck.
"We don't want to pigeon-hole him into one position. We don't have a lot of blokes who are six-foot plus so it's great to have him to add to the depth."
Harkness said Nirranda's smaller average height meant it was primed to use its speed, skills and contested ball prowess.
He said the Blues forward line - which will likely feature recruit Nick Couch, Ben Threlfall, Max Primmer as well as Dalton and Jack Primmer - would be dynamic.

"I think we'll be a lot less predictable," Harkness said.
"We have a few more avenues to goal and having "Butch" Angus will add to that flexibility."
Nirranda will play Alvie and Simpson in practice matches leading into their round one clash against Warrnambool and District league rival South Rovers.
Round one kicks off on April 10.
