A British national who has overstayed his visa has been remanded in custody after appearing in Warrnambool court accused of stealing two hire cars worth $90,000.

Jamie Fionda-Thistlethwaite, of no fixed address, was arrested in Warrnambool on Wednesday and appeared in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court for a remand hearing on Thursday.
He did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody until April 19.
The court heard Fionda-Thistlethwaite was a UK national who had overstayed his visa, he has been working full-time and had trade skills.
It's his first time in custody but he has no custody management issues.
Police allege one of the vehicles was a Toyota HiLux valued at $50,000 which was rented from Avis and recovered in Queensland.
The second car was rented from Budget at Melbourne airport and recovered in New South Wales.
Police allege Mr Fionda-Thistlethwaite used his own identification to hire the vehicles but failed to return them as required.
