The new amendments include a two-month mediation period to give parties more time to create deals before a final offer arbitration process.

The government will also have to provide digital platforms one month's notice before any code is designated.

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg confirmed news would return to the newsfeeds of Australian Facebook users.

"The government has been advised by Facebook that it intends to restore Australian news pages in coming days," Mr Frydenberg said in a statement.

"These amendments will provide further clarity to digital platforms and news media businesses about the way the code is intended to operate and strengthen the framework for ensuring news media businesses are fairly remunerated."

Despite the return to Facebook, The Standard will still circulate its news through a range of different platforms.
