A new section of trail, dubbed 'Stage One - Package C' will be built for $370,651.

The 2.5 metre-wide unsealed path will stretch from Curdievale-Port Campbell Road from the Wannon Water Treatment plant to North South Road, Port Campbell.

The contract was awarded to Waldig Civil Construction Camperdown.

Corangamite Shire councillor Kate Makin said it's great the works will be carried out by a local company.

"Being a Corangamite business they will get the materials from the local area and quarry, the community will know they have had an input into this trail which is great," she said.

"We're getting another step closer to getting this project done."

The Twelve Apostles Trail Committee had been pushing for the project's delivery for over 15 years before money was finally committed by the state government last year.

The state government contributed $4.5 million towards the project from the Crisis Committee of Cabinet - Infrastructure Stimulus Fund.

The trail will stretch from Timboon to Port Campbell and unlock the capacity for visitors to access the coast from the train in Camperdown.
