The Port Fairy Jazz Festival committee had to quickly adjust and change its plans to meet the government regulations.
A Port Fairy Jazz on the Green event had been organised by the committee, a smaller version of the full Port Fairy Jazz Festival.
The event was to be held on Fiddler's Green, with shows to limited crowds on Friday evening, and Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
But a growing COVID-19 cluster in Melbourne meant the government brought in stage four restrictions, effectively ending the event after its opening evening on Friday.
Not surprisingly, the Friday night was a quiet affair, with any visitors to the town either on their way back home or preparing to leave to get home before the lockdown started.
Port Fairy Jazz Festival president Rod Carter said while it was disappointing the event was cut short, it could not be helped.
"It's just the way it goes," he said.
"We wanted to put something on for the Port Fairy community and I'm glad we tried.
"We thank the whole community, everyone was so supportive."
