The 30-year-old right-arm medium pacer took 6-17 from his nine overs, which included two maidens, as Chris Bant's men bowled the Dogs for 55.

In reply Bant finished unbeaten on 30, including four boundaries, as the Gators claimed a nine-wicket victory.

Mahony said it was pleasing to put in a good performance for his side.

"Been around the mark and bowling alright without getting a lot of wickets so it was good to get a bit of reward," he said.

The Wangoom dairy farmer said sticking to the team plan and bowling in tandem with a rising Gators star helped his performance.

"We thought if we bowled tight and created enough chances we could get the wickets," he said. "We are a good bowling unit and pride ourselves on bowling tight.

"Early in the season I was first or second change. It sort of depends on the wind when I get there as the two Boyds (father Ben and Ethan) like to bowl with it and against it is generally me.

"I bowled with Ethan and we bowled a couple of maidens. He bowled without luck as he beat the bat at least 10 times and I was lucky enough to get the rewards.

He is definitely an up-and-coming talent and has got some good speed, hits deck nice and hard and this year has bowled without getting reward himself.

"It would be nice if he can push them (batsmen) back and they score off me and that might help with him getting more wickets."

Mahony said things feel into place for the Gators in the field and in the batting innings

"It was one of those lucky days we held our catches and combined with silly shots we managed to keep them to fifty and not lose early wickets batting," he said.

"We've made a real mess of a few innings by losing early wickets. We wanted to have partnerships to chase the runs down."

Mahony said the win would give the side confidence heading into two-day games against Merrivale, West Warrnambool and Wesley-CBC.

Elsewhere, Russells Creek's Cameron Williams smashed a half-century to help guide the Creekers to victory over Wesley-CBC.

The premiership captain finished not out on 69 from 59 balls in an innings that last 47 minutes and included eight boundaries.

Current skipper Matt Petherick (2-21 from nine overs) and spinner Joe Kenna (2-22 from six) helped restrict the Beavers to 110 from their 45 overs.

Brierly-Christ Church's youngster Daniel Hawkins was the star for the reigning premiers in their victory over Port Fairy. He finished with 5-29 from his six overs.

In the round's other games Woodford continued its hot form with a 66-run victory. Conner Richardson (3-20), Kory Howlett (3-22) and Jarryd Lewis (2-5) were key.

An unbeaten 48 from 74 balls for Ben Threlfall helped West Warrnambool secure the points over Merrivale.
