Warrnambool hosted Chelsea at the Arc on Saturday night, before going on the road to meet Southern Peninsula at Hillview Stadium yesterday.
An early lead in the first game put the Seahawks on track to defeat the Gulls 86-83, despite the opposition’s fourth quarter comeback.
Southern Peninsula developed a similar 11th-hour energy in yesterday’s game.
However, Warrnambool maintained its fight, taking out the Sharks 79-66.
Playing coach Tim Gainey said his side was tired after the double triumph but pleased with its efforts.
“Everybody contributed and everybody played,” he said.
“Even the younger ones came on for some time.”
Gainey said the victories had given the Seahawks a confidence boost but there was always room for improvement.
He highlighted making extra passes and running with the play all the way down the court as areas the team needed to work on.
“They’re all mental things,” he said.
“The physical side is already there for the boys I think.”
American import Cameron Mitchell put in stellar performances across both games, shooting 37 points against Chelsea and 33 against Southern Peninsula.
Gainey, Jake Spruhan and Dion Smith also bolstered both scoreboards.
“We’ve got a lot of consistent players who also shoot nine or 10 points for us here and there,” Gainey said yesterday.
The Seahawks’ line-up has been changing from week to week, with injury, illness and other commitments affecting players.
“We’ve got some guys out who probably would have started the season for us,” Gainey said.
“It’s given the younger boys an opportunity to get onto the court.
“It’s been a team effort in the games we’ve played so far.”
Warrnambool will go head-to-head with Werribee next week, with Gainey saying both teams’ fast approaches would make for a challenging match.
“If we can sustain our tempo I think we’ll be fine,” he said.
Gainey said he was confident in his side’s ability to repeat last season’s success but would take each game as it came.
“It’s still very early in the season, we haven’t played each team once yet,” he said.
“Whatever team has the best game plan is probably going to be one of the teams in the end.”
