Arthur Finch and Shayne Pudney took out the prestigious pairs title at City Memorial on Thursday night.
"I think that's number one. If you don't get on, you might as well not play with one another," Finch said.
"You could have the best two players in the world and if they don't get on, they won't win."
Pudney said the duo's different styles meant they were a strong match for pairs competition.
"We know each other's games. We're totally, well not totally, but we're different players. Arthur is a beautiful draw bowler and I'm more of an aggressive player.
"Sometimes I need to be pulled back a little bit and Arthur has forgotten more about bowls than I've ever known.
"I learn from his experience and enjoy it win, lose or draw."
He said the duo were delighted to claim the prize and enjoyed strong support from Timboon's small army of supporters.
The duo hoped the pairs success would inspire the club at pennant level.
"To have a win here, it's pretty great for a little club," Finch said.
"There's a lot of excitement around the Timboon club at the moment, there's a real buzz there.
"We're feeling really good about the midweek and weekend pennant at the moment. The club is just buzzing."
Finch said the pair's first win of the day set up the victory.
"I didn't play that well for half a game and we were probably six or seven to one down," he said.
"This bloke (Pudney) was brilliant. He drove them out and we got another go at it. He was absolutely brilliant in that game.
"Our opposition were very good bowlers and good, young blokes too. I bowled a bit better in the second half and we then got on top."
Both men said they would again contest the tournament in 2022.
