Journalist KIMBERLEY PRICE had a chat to Joey ahead of his performance on Friday
KP: What has inspired you throughout the pandemic?
JB: I guess it's been a good way to kill time. I've been studying but music has given me something else to do. I get great enjoyment out my music and it's been a way to keep in touch with other musicians.
KP: What's your earliest memory of performing?
JB: It's probably when I was at school at Emmanuel, we did a lot of performances in music in year 7 and then started playing on my own and with some friend sin a band. I probably performed in primary school as well. School has always been a good platform to start playing.
KP: What's your favourite memory of performing?
JB: The gig I just played was at The Workers Club and it was so good, we sold out the place. I was with the full band as well which is made up of my brother, a mate from Warrnambool and a mate from uni. Everyone came down and supported us, it was just great.
KP: Best advice you've ever received?
JB: That's a tough one, but I think it's probably to just stick at it. If you really want to do something it will happen. It applies to my school as well, I did a bachelor of health science but I always wanted to do physio. I studied hard and I got into physio and I've just started this week.
KP: What can the audience expect from your show at Laneway?
JB: Just some nice summer vibes. I'm doing an acoustic set with (my brother) Paddy. There will be a few covers, and a few originals. It's great to be back in Warrnambool and I'm hoping to get a few more gigs here as an excuse to come home. Laneway is a great venue too.
