Justin Lynch's men stunned reigning two-day premier Brierly-Christ Church in Sunday's Warrnambool and District Cricket Association Twenty20 semi-final.
The triumph - spurred on by solid top-order knocks from Jeremy Burgess, Josh Stapleton and Lynch - set up a mouthwatering decider against ladder leader Woodford on Thursday night.
Lynch said Merrivale had performed well across all limited overs formats but had struggled for luck in one-day cricket.
He said the Tigers' Twenty20 form - they're currently unbeaten from six matches - was down to strength in the field.
"One thing I rate and I have been big on since taking on the coaching role has been fielding," Lynch told The Standard.
"If you can save 20 or 30 runs in the field it helps your batting a lot."

Lynch said confidence was high but praised Woodford, the reigning one-day premier, as the competition's best.
"We've beaten (Brielry-Christ Church) twice in Twenty20 games and I reckon Woodford are the best side in all three formats of the game," he said.
"We managed to roll them this past Thursday (in a Twenty20 game) so hopefully the boys can step up and pinch the win.
"We're all looking forward to it."
