Declares War ridden by Patrick Moloney hung on to defeat Reserve Street by half-a-length with Fabian's Spirit back in third place.
Trainer Matt Cumani told The Standard the Colac Cup was the logical next start for Declares War.
"The Colac Cup fits into Declare War's preparation really well," Cumani said.
"It was a good ride by Patrick. He doesn't do much riding for our stable but I've always admired his style.
"He's an underrated jockey. We wanted to make sure the Camperdown Cup was a truly run race that's why the instruction for Patrick was to go to the lead from his inside barrier.
"He set a good tempo and despite getting a bit tired late, Declares War still did a great job.
"Declares War showed a lot of promise as a young horse it's just taken time to find his right level.
"He should develop into a handy country cups horse before heading back to town for some nice city races.
"I'm sure he'll be better suited to the 2000 metres of the Colac Cup, then the 1600 metres of the Camperdown Cup."
