TWO teenagers have received a caution from police after admitting to damaging a Port Fairy fence on council property.

As a result of an appeal for witnesses in The Standard about damage in the town, Port Fairy police followed up inquiries linked to a Snapchat video.
Sergeant David Walkley said police interviewed two 15-year-old males from another south-west town who were holidaying in Port Fairy and released them with a caution.
"They have put up their hands for some of the damage. They have admitted to damaging some of the panels," Sergeant Walkley said.
"One of the things is they will paying restitution to Moyne Shire for the damage."
It follows a spate of vandalism in the town that damaged 20 road signs and a number of private fences around New Year.
But Sergeant Walkley said it was likely more than one group was responsible for the collective damage, which stretched to the outskirts of the town.
"I would be thinking there is more than one group of people responsible for the signs. This is more so about property damage in the CBD," he said.
"It's disappointing that people who would holiday here would cause damage to the town they were visiting."
He said police arrested an 18-year-old Kirkstall man at 12.50am on Saturday morning after he was ejected from a hotel and damaged a road sign.
"He took out his frustrations on a nearby road sign, when he was apprehended by police," Sergeant Walkley said.
