The 26-year-old entered the tournament on a high after being selected for the Australian Jackaroos feeder squad - the Emerging Jackaroos - last Friday.

According to Bowls Australia, Emerging Jackaroos players are eligible for selection in non-benchmark international events.

The squads remain in place for the next 12 months and will be reviewed again before the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, which are scheduled for 2022.

"I'm very excited, I definitely wasn't expecting it," she said.

"It came out of the blue, really."

"Last year with all the COVID, everything went a bit quiet with bowls and it wasn't really on my radar at all and then I got a phone call...

"I think it will be an amazing opportunity just to learn from the top coaches in our sport and be in a program that really involves the athlete as a whole."

The call-up may have come as a surprise but Whitehead has earned her selection.

She is the reigning Women's World Champion of Champions Singles winner after a stunning performance in Adelaide in 2019.

Whitehead represented Australia at that international tournament but she explained there was a difference between that feat and playing for the Jackaroos.

"You more have to earn your way and play through rather than getting selected," she said of her champion of champions experience.

Whitehead won at Victorian and national level before securing her place at the world event.

The talented bowler said being selected for the Jackaroos was her current ambition.

Her immediate focus was performing well for her Wodonga Bowling Club women's triples team in State Champions Week.

They lost their semi-final on Wednesday.

Whitehead has loved the City Memorial-based tournament so far.

"The facility is amazing and it's always a great event, state champs week," she said.

The Wodonga bowler has enjoyed plenty of success at the state event in previous years.

She said she had claimed the women's singles title in the past as well as been part of winning women's triples and women's fours.
