A 40-year-old Dennington man charged with punching his partner in the face and breaking her nose has been remanded in custody until March 1.

Police allege that on January 1 there was an incident between the man and his partner at their Dennington home.

The man did not apply for bail in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody until March 1.

Police allege there was a second incident on Monday this week which turned physical.

It's alleged the man punched his partner to the stomach, choked her and used a pole to smash items in the house.

He also threatened to stab her with a bayonet.

The victim fled the house, went to a nearby home and called the police.

The man was charged with 10 offences including assaults, including recklessly causing injury, as well as making threats to kill, causing criminal damage and weapons charges.

The man has a significant prior criminal record, including 22 pages of offending, but has limit offending in the past four years.

Tuesday, 1.15pm: A middle-aged Warrnambool man charged with assaulting his partner and weapons offences will be remanded in custody.

The man is not going to apply for bail during a hearing in the Warrnambool court on Tuesday afternoon and will be remanded in custody until a future date.

Earlier: A middle-aged Warrnambool man has been charged and remanded in custody to appear in court after allegedly assaulting his partner and being found with weapons.

Warrnambool police Sergeant Martin Flannery said uniform officers arrested the man on Monday, he was interviewed, charged with 10 offences and remanded in custody to appear in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Tuesday for a bail/remand hearing.

His charges include recklessly causing injury, assault, weapons offences and driving matters.

Police allege the man was involved in two major incidents with his partner.

A pocket knife was also located on him, knuckle dusters were found in his car and a bayonet at his address.

A Hamilton woman in her 40s is also in the Warrnambool police station cells waiting to go to court after being charged with breaching her bail conditions.

She was on bail for breaching a court-imposed intervention order.

The woman will also appear in court today for a bail/remand hearing.
