Under the pseudonym Gub, the 25-year-old explores the alternative and electronica genres in his six-track EP which was perfected throughout the coronavirus pandemic and released in September.
Journalist KIMBERLEY PRICE had a chat to Gub ahead of his performance on December 27.
KP: What has inspired you throughout the pandemic?
Gub: Throughout the pandemic I was inspired by; the creative process. The most inspiring part of the creative process for me is when I arrive on a new production idea, something that's new and exciting. It usually takes a while to arrive at the place but when you do it's very inspiring.
KP: What's your earliest memory of performing?
Gub: The first time I was on stage was when I was very little maybe five or six and I used to stand next to my mum and watch the audience. My earlier memories of performing were with my high school band Zephyr at the year 9 school social.
KP: How do you stay creative?
Gub: For me, creativity is something I have to do everyday to feel really inside of my work. I try and be discipline that means I usually do at least a few hours every day.
KP: What's your favourite memory of performing?
Gub: My favorite memory of performing was at my last Gub single launch at The Dart and Marlin. It felt so good to be doing my own thing at home amongst friends and family.
KP: Best advice you've ever received?
Gub: The best advice I've ever been giving is to show up everyday and if the creativity didn't at least you did.
KP: What can the audience expect from your show?
Gub: I think this show crosses a lot of genres. It's a new set I've been working on with a few friends. I hope it will be a diverse mix of emotions and vibes. I'm looking forward to it!
