All-rounder Dustin Drew was crucial in the Dogs' two-run victory against Port Fairy while teenage duo Fletcher Cozens and Joe Nyikos combined with the bat to lead the Panthers to a four-wicket triumph over Allansford-Panmure.
Dogs captain Josh Squires said Drew, who also made 22 runs, took 2-27 including the final wicket of Angus Blackwood.
"'Drewy' hadn't bowled a great deal this year but he bowled superbly in the end," he said.
"He hasn't played much cricket in the past 12 to 18 months.
"He got another score today and he's started to bowl really well too through the middle overs.
"He just knows what to do with the ball, especially at the end with that last wicket.
"It was a nail-biting finish. I think there was still two-and-a-half overs to go so we knew we had to bowl them out."
Templeton said Cozens (43 runs) and Nyikos (44) were instrumental in chasing the Gators' 149.
"It was one of those innings where we could see a bit of experience come out and match awareness," he said.
"We'd lost three quick wickets when they came together and they timed their run.
"They made sure they were both in and went into their roles of one having a crack and the other one anchoring the innings so we had a bit of stability.
"That can be hard for young lads to execute. It's one thing knowing when to do it but it is another thing to execute it."
Squires said Dennington's result was pleasing, particularly given Xavier Beks (injured) and Luke Cody (unavailable) didn't play.
"It was a great win especially with where everyone is situated on the ladder," he said.
"I think us and Port Fairy around the fourth-fifth spots, so it was a very important game."
Shannon Beks top-scored with 59 for the Dogs and Lochie Worden took four wickets.
In other games, Merrivale's Wil Fleming (4-13) and Nestles' Jacob Hetherington (5-16) dominated with the ball.
But it was Fleming who had the double celebration with the Tigers recording a 93-run win.
The Tigers, with Josh Stapleton contributing 45, made 8-153 and then bowled the Factory out for 65.
Brierly Christ-Church overcame a shaky start to account for Wesley-CBC.
The Bulls were struggling at 3-23 before rallying to make 9-170, including 42 from Nathan Murphy.
They celebrated a 39-run win after Brandon Bant took 3-20.
Bailey Jenkinson top-scored with 62 and took 3-8 in Woodford's big 105-run win against Russells Creek on Sunday.
Connor Richardson chimed in with 3-14 as the Eels bowled Creek out for 71.
