Detective Acting Sergeant Kim Wheeler, of the Warrnambool police family violence unit, said the accused man and the woman were previously partners.
The man has been charged with breach an intervention order, stalking, unlawful assault and making threats to damage property.
There was an incident between the former couple on November 2 involving a verbal argument which led to the accused man threatening to take his own life by driving into a tree.
He attended the victim's home, repeatedly banged on her bedroom window, entered the home, grabbed the woman's mobile phone, threw it on the ground, got on top of her and put his right arm around her neck.
A baby was present at the time of the incident.
On Monday evening this week a text message conversation led to the man repeatedly calling the woman, called her names and threatening to drive his car through her house.
He said if she went elsewhere he would look for and find her and again threatened to kill himself.
Police found the man hiding in an address on the outskirts of Warrnambool.
He was arrested, interviewed, charged and remanded in custody overnight to appear in the Warrnambool court on Wednesday for a bail/remand hearing.
