A high pressure system in the Tasman Sea directs a northerly airstream over Victoria while a low pressure trough crosses the Bight.
The trough will reach the west of Victoria later today then clear to the east of the state on Friday.
Another high crossing the Bight will move towards Tasmania and into the Tasman Sea by Saturday, extending a ridge to the south of Victoria.
Meanwhile, a low pressure trough deepening over South Australia on Saturday will move over Victoria by Sunday.
For the next seven days - Warrnambool is expecting a mostly cloudy Friday with a top of 17 - only about half of today's top temperature - Saturday will be mostly cloudy 23, Sunday 50 per cent chance of showers 23, Monday mostly cloudy 23, Tuesday partly cloudy 23, Wednesday partly cloudy 24 and Thursday partly cloudy 23.
