Sullivan can normally be spotted playing in the top-grade weekend pennant for Koroit Blue which made the pennant grand final in 2019.

The long-time bowler decided to take on midweek as well to help the club.

"It's very hard for a small club to get numbers to play bowls so I made up my mind this year to come and give the midweek pennant a bit of a hand to lift the numbers up a bit," he said.

"So they're not getting beaten by 20 or 30 shots every week which they were, now we're starting to be competitive; which is really good."

Orange has already posted two wins but fell to City Memorial Gold by 20 shots at Koroit Bowling Club on Tuesday.

Sullivan, a north Warrnambool resident, said he enjoyed the camaraderie of the sport.

"Just the socialising, it's good to get out," he said.

"Being retired it gives you a little bit of an interest, also it's about keeping yourself fit.

"It's mainly the social side of a small club compared to a big club, they're very good people here.

"They're very social and really look after you."

Sullivan started bowling about 20 years ago with Grangeburn Bowling Club in Hamilton.

When he moved to Warrnambool he played with Warrnambool Bowls Club.

"I won a couple of division one pennants with them and then I decided it was time to give the little clubs a hand because Warrnambool and City have got that many bowlers and they are two strong clubs," he said.

Sullivan explained Koroit had made two division one weekend pennant grand finals since he got involved about three years ago.

In other games, Mortlake Blue defeated Timboon Maroon 58-49, Port Fairy Gold secured a 67-51 victory against Warrnambool Blue, Dennington Dolphins defeated Warrnambool Gold and Terang Gold was victorious over City Green 67-57.
