Paul Pallot, who took on the role as pastor at the Warrnambool and District Baptist Church earlier this year, said the food drive was something that his Melbourne church had been involved in and he was keen to bring the idea here.
Four other churches - St John's Presbyterian, St Joseph's Catholic Church, Naringal Baptist Church, Gateway Church of Christ - along with Homeseeker real estate and King's College will be helping out with the food drive.
The bags will be delivered to homes between Wangoom and Whites roads and, on Sunday, November 15, the sames teams would return to collect the bags in the hope that they might be filled with some non-perishable food items.
"If they're not there we may doorknock a little bit, ask people if they've got something to contribute," Mr Pallot said.
"All the food goes directly to Warrnambool and District Foodshare just to help stock them up for the lead into Christmas.
"It's a pretty simple concept. It's about collecting food and making it easier for people to give without having to leave their home."
Mr Pallot said that if the food drive proved successful, they would look at expanding it over the next few years.
The idea came about during the first lockdown when they were looking to see how they could help meet the biggest need in the community.
"If Foodshare could be well supplied and stocked up, they could provide for a lot of people's needs," he said.
