Rodney Sumner pleaded guilty in Warrnambool Magistrates Court late last month to about a dozen charges.
Last year he refused a drug driver oral fluid test, possessed Suboxone without a prescription and handled jewellery believed to be stolen.
Mid this year Sumner allowed an acquaintance to stay at his home before stealing his phone and selling him a $100 gift card that did not actually have any money on it.
In August he threatened to kill a woman before shoving her head into the window of a car, causing her to scream for help.
She was not injured.
Sumner was intercepted by police on August 21, arrested and found in possession of three small bags each containing about 0.1 grams of methamphetamine.
Sumner has 16 pages of criminal history, which includes long stints in jail.
Lawyer Michael Kats requested a combination sentence involving jail time served and a community corrections order, despite an office of corrections assessment finding Sumner was unsuitable.
He said Sumner had completed a five-month intensive corrections order in the past as well as period on parole.
Magistrate Mark Stratmann heard a plea last week and adjourned sentencing so a CCO assessment could be carried out.
He said deterrence and punishment were two of the main factors in sentencing Mr Sumner.
In addition to sentencing him to four months' imprisonment, Sumner's driver's licence was cancelled for four years and he was fined $1200 with 84 costs.
He has spent 76 days in custody which will be counted as time already served off his jail term.
Sumner will be out of prison in about six weeks.
Last week lawyer Amanda Chambers said Sumner had "really made good use of his recent time in custody", abstaining from drugs and gained 20 kilograms in weight.
"He is very motivated to try to continue to head in the same direction that he is now on," she said.
"In his own words he is 43 and he thinks it's time to grow out of the lifestyle he has been living."
