Rebecca's Cafe and NewsXpress have created a limited number of children's showbags which include a range of baked goods, toys, games and drinks vouchers.

Cafe owner Rebecca Nelson came up with the showbag idea alongside regular customer Jenny McLean and found help from the town's newagents who had leftover toys and stock.

Cafe staff member Kaitlyn Coulton said over 20 bags were sold last weekend and there were already orders for the upcoming weekend's round.

"Rebecca's volunteered with the show and done a number of prizes for it before and her and Jenny decided to put together something," Miss Coulton said.

"There's baked bits and pieces as well as frisbees and toys.

"Each bag is a little different but the gist of each is the same.

"Normally this weekend is full of kids running around, throwing water at each other and having fun but they can't do that this year. We hope this is something that can bring a bit of joy instead."

The cafe released the first round of showbags last weekend and had 20 orders within the first 24 hours.

They are taking orders for the second round until Friday night but limited stock is available so get your orders in quick.

All of the money raised from the showbags will go towards the 2021 Port Fairy Show and secretary Anita Watts said she was delighted to have extra funds for the event.

"I think it's a great idea," she said. "They did it off their own bat and I'm glad they were able to do something.

"We haven't got camping for the folk festival next year so we won't be able to receive funds from that which is the majority of our money. Anything we can get is great."

Mrs Watts said the event is a mammoth task for the committee who will be spending the annual show weekend at the grounds for a working bee.

"It's a huge amount of work getting it ready, but once it's 7am in the morning and people are rolling in you think it's all worth it," she said.

"It's all a big unknown what next year will look like but we're hoping restrictions will lift and everyone does the right thing.

"We're hoping to put a show on next year so keep doing artwork and photography and stay in the loop of what's to come."
