That has been the theory of the Koroit Lions Club in regard to the opening of its High Street op shop.
In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, the club made the call to shut the doors of its op shop, with March 21 the closure date.
It waited util September 21 to re-open, resisting the temptation to do so when small windows of opportunities presented along the way.
Koroit Lions Club Op Shop manager Marg Everard explained this cautious approach, and why it was still holding true.
"We have taken a very cautious approach all the way along," Ms Everard said.
"We need to keep the public safe and we need to keep our volunteers, which is all of us who work in the shop, safe as well.
"Most of our volunteers are in that susceptible age bracket so we have to be careful."
Club members ensured stringent plans were in place before the op shop re-opened.
These included setting up a station at the front door of the shop with hand sanitiser, which everyone who enters the shop is required to use.
Clothes that are donated to the shop have to be held in storage for three days before they can be put out for sale.
Ms Everard thanked the Koroit public for not dumping items at the op shop during its closure.
"People have been really good in that regard," Ms Everard said.
"We are telling people who might have a lot of stuff to donate to us to do so in small amounts, not in truck or boot loads.
"We still want donations of goods but we just need them spread out rather than bringing them in all at once."
All money raised from the op shop goes to the Lions club, which is then put towards community projects.
"Not being opened has put a spanner in the works financially," Ms Everard said.
"Six months without income is obviously a blow so it's good to be back on deck and making some money for our community projects again.
"The break has again shown just how important the op shop is to not only the Lions club but to the whole town of Koroit. It seems to give everyone a bit of a lift."
