Cedric Cox starred for Camperdown in 2016 after moving across the country from the remote community of Halls Creek.
He joined NAB League club GWV Rebels mid-season and piqued the Lions' interest. Cox, now 23, was drafted with pick 24 and played 13 AFL games in four seasons with Brisbane.
He informed the club he wanted to return to Western Australia for family reasons.
The smooth-moving half-back was one of seven Hampden league exports drafted in 2016 - a record haul for the region.
Hugh McCluggage (Brisbane), Willem Drew (Port Adelaide), Sean Darcy (Fremantle), Rowan Marshall (St Kilda) and Jamaine Jones (West Coast) remain in the AFL system while Dion Johnstone (Melbourne) spent two seasons at the Demons.
Cox was one of six list changes at the Lions.
Sam Skinner, Matthew Eagles, Toby Wooller, Jacob Allison and Corey Lyons were delisted.
