A weak high pressure ridge will persist across the state today as a low pressure trough deepens into a low over South Australia.
The low will approach north-western Victoria late on Friday and extend a trough southwards across the state as a cold front approaches Tasmania.
During Saturday the low will track south-east across eastern Victoria as the front sweeps across Tasmania and a large high pressure system develops south of WA.
The high is forecast to move slowly east during Sunday as a low pressure trough develops over north-eastern Victoria.
