Being invited to join BMX Victoria's junior development program was an added bonus.

Warrnambool's Xavier Keilar and Koroit's Dakodah Roberts, both 10, were among riders from 14 clubs across the state included in the training program which will include specialised coaching.

Both are eager for the opportunity.

"I feel happy about it. I think we're going to get coached by elite people," Xavier said.

"It is hard to get there (and be part of the program)."

Dakodah said she wanted to "learn some new things".

Xavier, who goes to St Joseph's Primary School, has been racing BMX for half his life. He tries to get to the Jetty Flat circuit as often as possible.

"I just like meeting new people everyday," he said.

Dakodah is new to the sport, having only taken up competition this season.

"I just watched my brother and my dad race and I thought I wanted to start," she said. "I just like riding and meeting new people too."

The development program members were selected based on results in the first two rounds of the state series earlier this year.

The remainder of the series was cancelled due to coronavirus restrictions.

BMX Australia, Cycling Australia, Mountain Bike Australia and its state bodies voted in favour of joining a new unified nationwide organisation, AusCycling, which starts operations on November 1.
