The Timboon Demons export, who led the Eagles to the state league flag on Sunday, told The Standard he planned to keep splitting his time between family, work and football for the foreseeable future.

Thompson's side defeated North Adelaide in a 39-point rout at Adelaide Oval.

Thompson said family came first and his wife Caitlin as well as his 18-month-old daughter, Lacie, had been supportive of his endeavours on-field.

"My wife Caitlin does a great job at home with football and work taking up a lot of my time," he said.

"It's year-by-year at the moment but while I can still contribute, I'd like to play again next year. It's about helping our young kids develop and playing my role for the team."

Thompson, 29, said the premiership was special to his club.

"It's been absolutely awesome. Having won in 2011, I knew a bit about what it was like but I was a fair bit younger back then," he said.

"We've had a bit of heartache over the past few years, losing grand finals in 2015 and 2016 and then making the prelims in 2017 and 2018.

"We didn't make finals in 2019 so to win in 2020, it was really sweet. The boys did the hard yards so it was very satisfying."

Thompson, a Port Campbell-raised defender, said Woodville-West Torrens was soaking up the celebrations.

"After we won, it's basically a big party back at our club. We had all of our fans there with us on our oval and presentations on stage," he said.

"We celebrated mad Monday on Monday and we've had Brewery Day at West End on Tuesday which is an iconic event for South Australia."
