Warrnambool man Paul McDonough, 37, was initially charged with intentionally causing serious injury and recklessly causing serious injury after an alleged serious assault at a property in Warrnambool's Ocean Grove
A 28-year-old woman was allegedly found in her home on November 27 last year and an unknown person called an ambulance.
She was transported to the Warrnambool Base Hospital, assessed and treated before being flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition with head and spinal injuries.
The woman was placed on life-support and had remained in a critical condition there until life-support was turned off in December.
In February, the charges were upgraded to one count of murder.
Mr McDonough faced Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Friday where a one-day committal hearing was set down for January 20.
The hearing will hear from five civilian witnesses and a police informant.
The court heard the majority of the witnesses would give evidence about "the nature of the relationship" between Mr McDonough and the victim.
Mr McDonough remains in custody on remand.
