The Pirates will host West Warrnambool in a one-day match on October 31.

"I've come in and am trying to change things up a bit and I'm super impressed with the way they're grasping it," Medew said.

"They're open to new ideas. We're moving along slowly and ticking boxes."

He said the club was trying to get good processes and routines in place.

The Pirates were forced to cancel training last weekend due to flooding.

Heavy rain last week meant flooding impacted some Port Fairy homes as well as numerous properties' gardens, sheds, paddocks and fences.

As Medew pointed out "the ground was under water with ducks floating on it".

The Pirates are putting in a big week to make up for the missed session.

They trained Tuesday and will get back into it on Thursday evening.

There will be an intra-club practice match on Saturday.

"It's really just setting the scene from the things we've been working on," Medew said.

"I'll be interested to see how that's all coming together with the changes in the way we train, the standards and rules in place and game plans."

Medew said the Pirates would have a team lunch after the practice match.

He believes it will be important given the coronavirus pandemic interrupted pre-season.

The Pirates trained for about eight consecutive weeks before the second coronavirus lockdown began.

The top-grade side is looking to build on its bottom-of-the-ladder finish in the one-day cup for the 2019/20 summer.
