Committee member Shane Murphy told The Standard the decision was a "tough call". He said the coronavirus pandemic and regional Victoria's two stay at home orders meant preparations had been challenging.
"It was tough seeing as it was going to be the 40th running," Murphy said.
"It's disappointing and I don't know if you'd call it a good thing, but it was something we probably saw coming.

"When we came out of lockdown the first time we thought we might be all right and we held off as long as we could over the past two months."
Murphy said the committee would switch its focus to the 2022 event.
"We hope it'll (be a big event). We've had a good following and it's something people have looked forward to," he said.
"One of the hardest things has been what's happening with caravan parks as a lot of people that run are from out of town and stay down there.
