Organisers of the Koroit Truck Show have made the call, citing complications around COVID-19 restrictions and continued uncertainty caused by the pandemic as the reasons behind the cancellation.
The 2021 Koroit Truck Show was to be held on Saturday, January 25, at Victoria Park.
Thousands attended the 2020 truck show, showcasing the growth of the event over its 11-year history.
In 2017, the truck show was named Moyne Shire's Community Event of the Year.
The truck show not only has a strong following across the south-west, but attracts trucks from all over Victoria and interstate.
Koroit Truck Show organising committee member Graeme Morris said the call to cancel was disappointing but inevitable.
"We kept putting back the decision to call it off, hoping things might change," Mr Morris said.
"We had started by setting the end of July, then the end of August and then when we got to the end of September we knew we had to call it."
Mr Morris said booking entertainment attracts some upfront payment so financially the decision on the staging of the truck show could not be held off any further.
He said the event's sponsors were also prominent in the committee's minds when they made the decision.
"We have such great sponsors and without them we couldn't put the truck show on," Mr Morris said.
"Like many, a lot of them are doing it tough during all of this so we didn't want to be a burden on them."
Mr Morris and his fellow committee members are community volunteers.
He said the committee was proud of the high quality of the event and didn't want to dilute that.
"Everyone has worked hard to get the truck show to what it is now," Mr Morris said.
"The truck show has a good reputation and we didn't want to hurt that by not running the show properly.
"We didn't want to half do it and make it a tin-pot show.
"And given we want to keep everyone safe, that's the only way we may have been able to do it so we have decided to reset for 2022."
