The organisation - which connects south-west clubs to Golf Victoria and Golf Australia and administers pennant and country week teams - is yet to receive committee nominations ahead of its AGM on Sunday.
Seven positions are available but a minimum of four must be filled.
If the association is unable to form a committee, it will be deregistered. Member clubs would need to join other regions' associations to remain Golf Victoria-aligned.
There's a lot of history in the western district and it would be a shame to see that go.
- Martina Whelan
It could mean south-west clubs could face longer travel times to different districts - potentially Geelong, Ballarat or Horsham - to partake in pennant and other representative-level competitions.
Outgoing Western District Golf Association president Martina Whelan said the association worked hard to streamline roles and felt it was well-placed for a new committee to take over.
She said meetings were held digitally to reduce travel times across the district and the committee roles were flexible.
Whelan said the outgoing committee had implemented a strategic plan which provided direction for the association through to 2023.
"There's a lot of history in the western district and it would be a shame to see that go," she said.
"Pennant is one that would look a bit different as there are some great rivalries in the district."
