A Portland-district truck driver is expected to be interviewed by police after a near collision on the Princes Highway early Monday afternoon.
Portland police Senior Constable Chad McKenzie said the truck driver had made himself known to police after reports that a motorists was left shaken and lucky to be alive after an incident between Yambuk and Tyrendarra about 12.45pm on Monday.
He said the truck driver had a very different version of events and would produce dash camera footage.
Police will talk to the driver and review the footage before making any decision on whether further action will be taken against anyone involved.
Monday: POLICE say a man is "lucky to be alive" after a truck allegedly nearly wiped his car out on the Princes Highway.
They are calling for any witnesses, or the truck driver, to come forward.
Leading Senior Constable Chad McKenzie from Portland police said a driver was "shaken" after he was run off the road by a B-double on Monday.
Police are looking for a truck heading west on Princes Highway between Yambuk and Tyrendarra around 12.45pm today.
The truck was a B-double with large tippers, possibly carrying bark chip, Leading Constable McKenzie said.
"It pulled out past the driver to overtake and when cars appeared it didn't have time to get in safely so it just pulled back in," he said.
"The driver of the car said it was going to hit him so he braked and pulled off the road into the gravel.
"One tipper has a gross weight of around 45 tonnes, so double that and it's an enormous amount of weight to take up against a little car.
"The poor fella was shaken, he's lucky to be alive."
Leading Senior Constable McKenzie said police were appealing for witnesses who may have seen the incident to contact Portland police.
"In general truck drivers need to be mindful of not tailgating," he said.
