The Warrnambool-based trainer is worried the tight turning Coleraine track may not suit the eight-year-old who will be ridden by Jack Hill in the 1800-metre race.
"Patch Adams is a backmarker," Purcell said.
"I'm just hoping the speed is on early in the race.

"He then needs clear running but it's a short straight so Jack's going to have him in a good spot turning for home.
"Jack is going to have to ride for luck. Patch Adams ran fourth in the Coleraine Cup last year and this year's race looks just as strong. We gave Patch Adams a brief let up after his last run on heavy ground at Warrnambool.
"We're going to set him for other country cups like Murtoa, St Arnaud and Mortlake over the next few months.
"I'm confident he'll be competitive in those types of races over the spring."
Former Japanese-bred galloper Admire Winner is the interesting runner in the feature race on the nine-race program.
Admire Winner is having his third start for Horsham trainer Paul Preusker after being trained by Chris Waller and will be ridden by Dean Holland.
Consistent Stawell galloper Barry The Baptist will have plenty of support.
Last year's Apsley Cup and Stawell Cup winner has had two runs back from a spell which have resulted in minor placings at Moonee Valley and Ballarat.
The first race on the card, a maiden over 1600m, starts at 12.21pm while the cup is scheduled to begin at 4.45.
The last race is set down to start at 5.21pm.
