Jack Gleeson, who won a flag with the Tigers in 2014, has switched from Koroit after playing in the Saints' 2019 premiership.
New coach Josh Sobey is thrilled to have Gleeson back at Tigerland.
"He was high on our list and I suppose what's fortunate is I was able to play a lot of footy with Jack and we're pretty close mates," he said.

"We're absolutely rapt he's back, to have his leadership and understanding of how to take the next step; is going to be crucial for the club.
"We're really excited to see how he goes and about the leadership he'll bring."
Sobey is open-minded about which position Gleeson will play in 2021.
"His natural spot is off half-back but he's a great size and he's very versatile, we won't be locking him into one spot," the first-year Tigers mentor said.
"He'll be around the ball when he needs to be and one of the sergeants down back as well."
Sobey said he had a focus on getting past players back to Tigerland.
Gleeson is joining his older brother Sam in the yellow and black.
Their brother Matthew is also one of Merrivale's joint presidents.
The Tigers are aiming to build on their semi-final finish in 2019.
They didn't get a chance to get on the park in 2020 with senior competition cancelled due to coronavirus pandemic concerns.
Gleeson was contacted for comment.
