Over a month, the volunteers planted 6000 native trees between Illowa and Port Fairy.
Those getting their hands dirty for the planting included friends of the rail trail, RSL Active members and staff from the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP).
Funding for the trees came from DELWP, the Port Fairy Rotary Club, friends of the rail trail and Moyne Shire Council.
Port Fairy to Warrnambool Rail Trail secretary Ian Bodycoat was thrilled with the effort of the volunteers.
"It was our biggest ever planting and a great team effort," Mr Bodycoat said.
"The trail is being used more than ever so it's wonderful to get some more trees planted."
