Detective Sergeant Jason von Tunk, of the Portland police crime investigation unit, said the 27-year-old was located last week at a shearing shed in Majors Line Road, Fernihurst, about 50 kilometres north of Bendigo.
He said fugitive task force members, crime investigation unit detectives and the dog squad swarmed on the man who ran to a red Holden Commodore parked nearby.
"Police vehicles arrived and were parked around the Commodore to box him," Detective Sergeant von Tunk said.
"He refused to open his door and tried to drive away."
Detective Sergeant von Tunk said he struck the driver's side door with a baton, causing it to smash.
"(The fugitive) then reversed, deliberately colliding with a police vehicle, causing significant damage to the sliding door," he said.
The man then fled at high speed, exiting through a gate but colliding with a cattle grate.
"The front wheel of the vehicle was severely damaged and the vehicle was inoperable," Detective Sergeant von Tunk said.
"The car came to a sudden stop and he continued to try and accelerate, causing a lot of dirt to kick up (into the air).
"Police surrounded the car and the wanted man was forcibly removed through the driver's side window."
The man was conveyed to Bendigo police station where he was interviewed and charged with a range of offences, including aggravated burglary with a weapon, intentionally causing injury, resist arrest, ramming a police vehicle, and conduct endangering the lives of emergency services workers.
Detective Sergeant von Tunk said the man would also be charged with a raft of serious breaches of bail.
"All up there is probably between 50 and 60 charges," he said.
Numerous warrants had been issued for the man's arrest.
He first came into police custody in January this year following a police raid which allegedly uncovered 67 grams of MDMA, 22 grams of methamphetamine, 173 grams of cannabis, two cannabis plants and a quantity of steroids.
He was charged with drug trafficking and after a series of failed bail applications, he was granted strict-conditional bail during a special Supreme Court hearing on May 21.
Police will allege he then attended a property in Portland's Richardson Street on August 10 and seriously assaulted a male and female at the address.
He allegedly used a knife to cut the male victim across the chest and cheek, causing a large gash.
The female victim sustained a cut to the finger.
"The man fled the Richardson Street property and was then on the run," Detective Sergeant von Tunk said.
He said detectives later received information that the man was in Underbool working as a shearer.
Detectives attended the area on August 28 and located the man who was aggressive.
He was OC sprayed twice to the face before jumping into the passenger seat of a grey BMW.
A female driver allegedly fled the scene erratically and at speed.
"He got away on that occasion and that was when police stepped up their manhunt," Detective Sergeant von Tunk said.
He said it was "very pleasing" to have the man in custody.
"We were successfully assisted by the fugitive task force and it was was a really good result in the end," he said.
