The Bureau of Meteorology has issued two severe thunderstorm warnings.
It says severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains, Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes and Upper Western districts.
Locations which may be affected include Orange, Goulburn, Walgett, Dubbo, Parkes, Lightning Ridge, Coonamble, Nyngan, and Goodooga.
Earlier severe thunderstorm warnings for Riverina, Lower Western, Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory districts have been cancelled.
A wind gust of 96 km/h was reported at Cobar weather Station at around 3pm.
Large hail has been reported near Wagga Wagga as storms moved through, while 25mm was reported in 30 mins at Carabost to 3pm and 26mm was reported in 15 mins at Forbes to 5pm.
For the Snowy Mountains areas above 1900 metres: Damaging winds averaging 80 to 90 km/h, with gusts in excess of 110 km/h, are possible from Tuesday morning.
For areas below 1900 metres: Damaging winds averaging 60 to 70 km/h, with gusts in excess of 90 km/h, are possible during Tuesday afternoon.
Locations which may be affected include Nowra, Bowral, Braidwood, Goulburn, Cooma, Bredbo, Adaminaby, Nimmitabel and Khancoban.
