King has played a mixture of First XI an Second XI cricket for Prahran since he last played in the Warrnambool and District Cricket Association five years ago.
He will play for Dennington in round one on October 31 and is unsure how long he will be available with Prahran yet to receive a start date.
"It would be ideal to play five or six games before my first game in Melbourne," King said.
"Hopefully we can win a few games for Dennington as well, that would be nice."
The medical student said he hoped to feature in the Dogs' midweek twenty20 matches too.
King said the tough restrictions in metropolitan Melbourne had impacted Prahran's pre-season plans.
"It kept getting pushed back. We were meant to start training and then the restrictions came in the day we were meant to start training and it was called off," he said.
The former Victorian junior representative was pleased he could play for his home club.
"It's good now to have a date and something to work towards. It gives you a bit more motivation as well," King said.
"I am really looking forward to it, to play with my old mates and play against people who I played against in the past."
King said it was a logical choice for VPC players to suit up for a country club and get match practice.
"I think it's a great idea because you're just giving yourself the best chance," he said.
"Training is very important but to be out there and play games and switch yourself on is a different thing."
Dennington has appointed Josh Squires as its 2020-21 captain.
