Marshall Hayhoe, 5, was given the job by Warrnambool Target's Ros Stewart.
Ms Stewart said Marshall had always been coming in and inspecting the stock and she thought why not make it official.
She said she and the team loved seeing Marshall in the store.
"I have watched him go from a toddle and a waddle to full blown strut," she said.
The Warrnambool boy was recently presented with a special lanyard with his name and job title.
Marshall has Coffin-Siris Syndrome, Autism Lv3, an intellectual disability and multiple neurological disorders.
Ms Stewart said Marshall came to the store about three times a week with his mum Corrina Hayhoe.
"He is very popular in our store and the staff all love him," she said.
Mrs Hayhoe said Marshall loved going to Target and inspecting everything in the shop.
She was quick to add he doesn't touch the stock.
She said Marshall had been walking independently for less than a year, and prior to that used a walking frame.
Mrs Hayhoe said Marshall was non verbal and had no understanding of the danger of walking into others.
She said the staff had been wonderful with Marshall and didn't mind him inspecting the different stock.
"It used to be just shoes, but now he inspects clothing too," she said.
She said when Ms Stewart arranged the lanyard and name tag it had been a beautiful surprise.
"It made my day, it made me a bit teary too," she said.

Ms Stewart said she had been blown away by the attention her kind act to Marshall had received.
"I didn't think such a small gesture could grow into something so huge," she said.
A spokeswoman for Target said the business was touched to hear about Marshall's regular trips to the store and the kindness of Ms Stewart. "We are so pleased to have Marshall join the Target team," she said.
