Big ideas have been put on the table as plans are made as how to best use a $11.3 million allocation of funding to the Tower Hill State Game Reserve.
The state government has pledged the funding to upgrade the iconic tourist attraction.
A draft master plan for Tower Hill has been released after more than 200 members of the public took the opportunity to put forward their vision for the reserve.
Feedback is now being sought on the draft master plan with Parks Victoria to host an online information on Thursday September 17.
The draft master plan has some big-ticket items, including turning the current reserve exit into an entry point.
The reserve entry has long been a concern, especially for those unfamiliar with the area who are travelling from Warrnambool.
The entry is immediately after a hill, not only sneaking up on those unaware but also requiring a sharp turn across traffic coming the other way.
The draft master plan also presents options to improve the links between the township of Koroit and Tower Hill.
This includes the development of the carpark overlooking Tower Hill that sits directly above Anzac Avenue.
It is proposed this would include amenities such as toilets, water fountains, bike parking and landscaping enhancements.
Upgrades are also suggested for the Von Guerard's Lookout.
This would include water fountains, seating and bike parking.
Other items in the plan include:
*An upgrade of the Robin Boyd visitor centre.
*The creation of an outdoor pavilion for educational and cultural/community tours and events.
*Installation of a nature-play area within the barbecue/picnic area.
*The establishment ofa natural event amphitheatre along the crater rim, within the former quarry area.
*Creation of a crater rim trail around the edge of the reserve.
*Explore the potential for a new pedestrian connection into Tower Hill Reserve from Koroit.
*Establish a cafe/restaurant with function space and wellness centre.
*Explore opportunities to provide a low impact eco-lodge with associated dining, health and wellness offering.
One ting that is not directly part of the draft master plan is a footbridge from the Anzac Avenue carpark to the Tower Hill interior.
This footbridge had been proposed by former upper house member James Purcell in 2018.
This idea had the support of the Port Fairy to Warrnambool Rail Trail committee of management, linking the trail to Tower Hill.
