The governance of Moyne Shire assets has undergone a small change, but councillors believe this alteration will not effect the ability of the community to have a major say in their future management.

At their August meeting in Mortlake last week, councillors voted to change Section 86 committees to Community Asset Committees.
These committees, before and after the name change, are made up of community members and stakeholders and have the task of the day-to-day running of council assets.
The committees include representation from Moyne through either council officers or councillors.
In the past, the power of delegation for these committees had sat with councillors, but changes in the local government act have that power now with Moyne's CEO, Bill Millard.
Council also has delegated committees, with the delegation power of these bodies to remain with councillors.
These delegation committees must have at least two councillors, with one of those acting as chair.
The local government changes to these committees officially came into play on Tuesday, September 1, with the previous membership of those bodies transferring over.
Community Asset Committees will operate in caretaker mode from September 23 to October 24, the period running into the Moyne Shire Council elections.
During this time, the committees can continue to meet and deal with small issues but can not decide on major projects or works.
All positions on the committees will be advertised during September, with endorsement coming once the new council meets for the first time in November.
Mick Wolfe, who has been a Moyne Shire councillor since 2008, serving two terms as mayor, said giving community members the opportunity to be on committees that deal with community assets was priceless.
Cr Wolfe sits on the Port of Port Fairy delegated committee, a position he will forfeit soon due to his decision not to stand for council re-election in 2020.
"In my time on council, we have always acknowledged how important the work of these committees is," Cr Wolfe said.
"I can't remember council knocking back or overturning a recommendation put forward to us by these committees.
"The scope of what these committees can do is very broad and having a councillor or council officer on board and attending meetings certainly provides a lot of understanding about the direction of the committee and what are the hurdles in their way.
"It also highlights first hand the positive achievements of the committee.
"It's great we have such an active community in Moyne, where people are prepared to go on these committees and do what they can to help make a difference."
