The team behind the Port Adventure Film Festival has announced the event would not be happening in 2020.
The cancellation is a considerable blow to the event, which enjoyed a highly successful debut year in 2019.
More than 2000 people attended the festival, which featured films from across the globe.
The 2020 festival was to be held on the weekend of November 13-15.
Festival co founder and director Athena Morton said the decision to forgo 2020 was based on community safety.
"We just don't want to risk it, we want everyone to stay safe," Ms Morton said.
"We have our sights set on November 2021 and we have contacted our sponsors and other contributors and they have all shown great support and understanding.
"We are sure the people that came along and enjoyed the festival so much last year will also understand the situation and the decision we have made.
"It's all about looking forward to next year now and preparing for that."
The 2021 planning has received an early boost with the Port Fairy Folk Festival throwing its support behind the event.
The adventure film festival has been allocated $1400 from the Folkie's community funding.
This funding will be used for the film festival's youth program in 2021.
In 2019, Port Fairy's two primary schools took part, but the aim is to extend the invitation to other primary schools in the Moyne Shire.
