Tyson Hogan has joined Gerard FitzGerald's side from Coleraine.
Hamilton Kangaroos football director Craig Pertzel said Hogan fitted the club's recruiting profile.
"He definitely fits our mould. We want to grow from within the Hamilton region," Pertzel said.
"We want to attract the best local talent and get them to play the highest standard which is the Hampden league.

"Tyson has coached out there at Coleraine for a few seasons and he has that good level of experience."
Pertzel said the club would pursue further recruiting options within the south-west but was hesitant to have large numbers of players commuting from Geelong or Melbourne.
"We don't see it as being sustainable," he said.
"We're always actively looking around and interested in what is happening though and encouraging the best local players to come in and play.
"We'll hope to retain what we've got as well and some of our younger players. It's been good having the under 14s and 16s in the Hampden competition."
FitzGerald, a three-time VFL premiership coach with North Ballarat Roosters between 2008 and 2010, signed on at Melville Oval for 2021 last month.
