A vandal attack on trees in Warrnambool's botanic gardens has been described as senseless and disappointing.

Two pine trees were vandalised, one of them snapped at the base and will need to be replaced.
Branches were broken off the other tree and while it is hoped that it may reshoot, it will have compromised structural integrity.
"This was senseless and disappointing," a council spokesman said.
"We're fortunate to have a pinetum within the Warrnambool Botanic Gardens.
"The two trees were more than seven years old so the damage to these trees sets us back. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Warrnambool police.
