Investigators have been told a man entered the Timor Street store about 4.10pm on Friday.
He selected a bottle of alcohol which he put down his pants and then walked out the front door without paying.
Police said the man was perceived to be Caucasian, about 172cm tall and aged between 20 and 25.
He was wearing black pants, a black jumper, a black cap, red/orange lensed sunglasses and carrying a large backpack with white straps.
Police have released an image of a man they believe may be able to assist with their investigation.
