That's the assessment of Old Collegians stalwart Ashley Porra on the club's new bottle-green guernseys.

Porra, a former president, campaigned to have his beloved Warriors re-install the strip after several seasons in a khaki and yellow-inspired kit.

"This jumper came into existence in 1969. They used to wear a green jumper with a yellow or gold 'v'," he said.

"I don't know the story as to why they went to this crest, but it stayed that way until the mid 2000s and somehow we needed new jumpers and we ended up with jumpers that looked more like a letterhead.

"Early in the year when (Peter) 'Cork' Walsh from Macey's agreed to sponsor the jumper, I decided I could push the case to take it back to what it was.

"With all due respect, I thought the previous jumper was pretty ordinary.

"Let's be honest, we didn't have too much success in the old jumper. We've had more luck in the (bottle green)."

Porra said the straight stitching of the jumper's crest may suggest it was originally embroided.

"Someone pointed out you can sort of see how they're straight lines, rather than curved," he said.

"I reckon it makes sense because maybe the ladies of the club in the old days used to sew and make the jumpers.

"It was obviously easier to sew straight lines and I reckon that might be it."

Porra said it was important for Collegians to honour its history.

"The history of the footy and netball club (is vital). The netballers have been involved since 1991 and they've been a massive part of our club," he said.
