Pomborneit is planning to field a senior women's side in the Colac District Cricket Association's female division.

It's the latest in female cricket's rise to prominence in the south-west.

Bulls president Dave Murphy said the club was thrilled to field a senior side after launching its female program last season.

Murphy said was important to have a senior level for the junior girls to aspire to and the club could now cater for girls and women from entry level through to seniors.

Murphy said female players from other associations and rival clubs were welcome to join the Bulls' ranks.

Narelle Place, who played for Pomborneit in both male under 16s and division three, was one of the first players to flag interest.

After a multi-year hiatus, Place will return for the club's senior female side.

"The prospect of Pomborneit fielding a women's team has been talked about for several years, but for various reasons hasn't come to fruition," she said.

"I've been keen all along, and I'm thrilled that it's finally happening."

Place thanked the club's committee for its commitment to female cricket.
